Kota Stone Installation Process

1. Surface Preparation

  • Clean the base floor thoroughly.
  • Remove all dust, oil, grease, and loose particles.
  • Ensure the surface is level and slightly dampened before laying.

2. Material Selection

  • Use Kota stone slabs of uniform thickness (typically 18–40 mm).
  • Ensure slabs have machine-cut edges for clean joints.
  • Choose desired surface finish: rough, semi-polished, or polished.

3. Dry Layout

  • Arrange the slabs in a dry layout to match joints, grains, and color.
  • Make necessary adjustments before applying cement mortar.

4. Mortar Bed Preparation

  • Prepare mortar using a 1:4 cement to sand ratio.
  • Spread a 20–25 mm thick mortar bed over a manageable area.

5. Laying the Slabs

  • Wet the back of each slab.
  • Apply a thin layer of cement slurry on the slab's backside.
  • Place it on the mortar bed and tap gently with a rubber mallet to level it.
  • Maintain proper slope for water drainage in bathrooms or exteriors.

6. Jointing and Filling

  • Leave 1–2 mm joints between slabs.
  • After 24 hours, fill joints with white cement paste or pigmented cement to match the stone.
  • Clean off excess filler before it hardens.

7. Curing

  • Keep the surface moist for at least 7 days.
  • Cover with wet gunny bags or sprinkle water regularly to prevent cracks.

8. Finishing

  • Polish the floor using an emery stone or polishing machine after curing.
  • Wash with a mild acid solution to remove cement stains (optional).
