Sandstone Installation Process

1. Surface Preparation

  • Clean the base surface thoroughly.
  • Remove dust, oil, and debris.
  • Ensure the base is level and strong (concrete or mortar bed is ideal).

2. Layout Planning

  • Dry lay the sandstone slabs to check pattern, color variation, and sizing.
  • Mark alignment lines with chalk or thread for proper placement.

3. Mixing Adhesive

  • Use cement mortar (1 part cement: 4-5 parts sand) or an adhesive suitable for natural stone.
  • If using for exterior or wet areas, prefer polymer-modified adhesive.

4. Applying Adhesive

  • Spread mortar or adhesive on the base with a notched trowel.
  • Also butter the backside of the sandstone slab to ensure full contact.

5. Laying the Sandstone

  • Place the stone firmly and gently tap with a rubber mallet.
  • Maintain even gaps (3-5 mm) between stone for grout.
  • Use spacers if needed.

6. Leveling and Alignment

  • Continuously check for level and alignment with a spirit level or straight edge.
  • Adjust before mortar sets.

7. Grouting the Joints

  • After 24–48 hours of curing, fill the joints using grout or cement slurry.
  • Use a sponge to clean excess grout.

8. Cleaning and Sealing

  • Clean the surface after installation is complete.
  • Once dry, apply stone sealer to protect from stains, water absorption, and enhance the color.
